Double Clutch (A Brenna Blixen Novel #1) - Liz Reinhardt

What happens when you fall for the perfect guy...twice...in one day?

Brenna Blixen spent her freshman year homeschooling in Denmark; now that she's back in the States, she's determined to make her sophomore year unforgettable. And by unforgettable, she imagined awesome classes, fun friendships, and maybe a little romance.

What she got was a whole lot of romance, and all at once.

The same day that dark, brooding Saxon Maclean charmed her with his killer good looks and whip-smart wit, Jake Kelly stole her breath away with his heart-wrenching smile and intelligent, thoughtful focus.

But Saxon is a proud player who makes it clear that he doesn't know why he can't get Brenna off of his mind and out of his system, and Jake's sweet and humble attitude hides a secret past life that might be darker and more complex than Brenna is willing to deal with.

Complicating the matter is the fact that Saxon and Jake were once best friends and are now arch-enemies...and the more Brenna finds out about their connection to each other, the more intrigued and worried she becomes.

Between keeping the peace with her lovingly over-protective parents, designing t-shirts for her high school's rising punk band, keeping up her grades in classes split between academic and technical high school, and running the track like a maniac, Brenna has enough to worry about without juggling two guys who make her heart thud and drive her crazy all at once.

She has to make a choice, but how is she supposed to do that when giving her heart to one of them might mean breaking the other's?

Kissing someone other than your boyfriend is cheating.

But what about thinking about kissing someone other than your boyfriend?

What about thinking about it a lot?

This is a story of girl meets boy and begins a crush, then girl meets another boy and crushes on him too.  Both boys seem to have an interest in Brenna too, which makes it hard for her to choose.

First Brenna meets Saxon, smart, smartass, sexy soccer player who is also known as just a player.  He’s dated his way around and isn’t known for settling down with one girl.  There is something about him that interests Brenna (and most girls for that matter).  He’s a bad boy who likes to be the center of attention, and isn’t used to girls telling him no.

Then Brenna goes to her Tech school for her afternoon classes and meets Jake Kelly! I am sooo TEAM JAKE KELLY!!!! J! A! K! E! JAKE! JAKE!! JAKE!!! Jake is shy, but Brenna easily figures out he’s hardworking, focused and also sweet and sexy. Since he’s in at the tech school (which has a stigma of the kids not being smart…which Jake is) and he’s from the wrong side of the tracks Brenna knows her mom won’t really approve of him (what? My Jake Kelly is good enough for anybody, I don’t care how much money he has or doesn’t have in this case! – Boo Brenna’s mom!).  He’s still got a bit of a bad boy side to him though, he’s a fierce kisser and races motocross.  *sigh Jake*

So it seems like an easy slam dunk to me, but I forget when you are fifteen…nothing is an easy slam dunk.

It doesn’t help that Jake has a bit of a past that he has to explain to Brenna.  Nor does it help that Saxon is always throwing himself in Brenna’s face, and even her mom’s face (Saxon goes to the “normal” high school and clearly comes from money which makes him more desirable in the eyes of Brenna’s mom – although she thinks getting serious with any boy is a mistake).  It also doesn’t help that these used to be best friends, can’t stand each other at all.  No bro code between enemies right? But even if she chooses one, she doesn’t want to give up the other…so since they don’t get a long how can that work?

So, Liz Reinhardt…you’ve got me hooked.  I can’t wait to see how this will all unfold (Jake wins right? I won’t be able to contain myself if she chooses Saxon…I know there are two more books and I don’t know if I can handle it).
